I am back. My Acer laptop bailed on me just around the holidays. First its RAM went and then its battery. For a 4 year old laptop, severely disappointed by Acer, I had to fish around for a replacement and then configure it. Get a bigger disk, get a bigger RAM modules. Those RAM module prices are going up like crazy.
Lesson learned. I am not buying an Acer anytime soon. Did a big mistake by not buying Dell or HP.
Welcome back, sorry for your loss. With the current prices, now is not a good time to have to replace your PC …
Post Scriptum
I don’t know if Dell or HP is a good choice if you want a laptop that will last you a long time … Well, they actually will, they are quite durable, but there is a high chance that if you have a problem with them it’s either gonna be expensive to fix or you will have to buy a whole new laptop…
I preferred Dell. I used to recommend them all the time to everyone. But not anymore.
Right now all of Dell’s most reasonable priced laptops have old CPU. I guess all the profits that Michael Dell is making is going to buy influence with an orange orangutan. So I am avoiding Dell Laptops for time being.
ASUS TUF Ryzen 7 7735HS and 7600S GPU 8GB, going fine for 4 years now, but I keep mine without boost, since I play only RTS, Age of empires series, Age of Mythology, point is, I keep mine CPU/GPU temps under 70 C, so it behaves well, of course regular cleaning and I keep it raised from the surface for better venting. Had ACER office laptop for 8 years, not a glitch, sold it, it is still functional. So, there is no rule which says this one or that one is bad or good, might be a unit that had a flaw from factory or something…. Just my 2 cents
Basically I do not see any justification in buying a new computer or splurging on one every 5 years. Computers are not like Mobiles. The ideal period a computer ought to last is 7 years and anything beyond 7 years is a bonus. This keeps my carbon footprint low and also saves on my expenses.
