Hyprland freezes after being left idle with no input

Hyprland freezes and is unresponsive after being left idle for 20-60minutes

I’ve been running hyprland on endeavor os for a few weeks now and I’ve noticed an issue that gets really irritating especially when I have unsaved work on. After leaving my system idling for between 20 and 60 ish minutes the display freezes up entirely and is completely unresponsive and unrecoverable by any means I have tried so I’m forced to force shutdown the system with the power button to fix it. I have seen some people with similar issues, but they are all on NVIDIA cards whereas I am running off Intel integrated graphics. I have also seen another suggestion on one such post that the issue may stem from an issue with Thorium browser (which I use), and it does seem to freeze when Thorium is open in the background.

However I am not 100% sure that Thorium is what is causing the issue and not some error with drivers or something else. However I will note that the issue seems to happen less or not at all if thorium is not left running from what I remember. If Thorium IS causing this freeze then even just having a new tab and nothing else open is enough to trigger it as with my most recent freeze. Any help would be appreciated, but if you need me to pull logs or drivers or something I just ask that you’d include instructions on how to find them as I am still pretty new to the whole Arch thing.

System details

OS: Endeavor OS (latest version)
WM: Hyprland, KDE plasma installed as well for times when I need a DE over a WM
CPU: Intel Core i5 11th gen
Graphics: Integrated
Running on Dell Inspiron 58 something series laptop
8 gigs ram

As a side note I am using prasanthrangan’s hyprdots for Hyprland theming, not sure if that’s relevant information but I thought I’d include it

I also do not currently have hypridle set up but as it isn’t running and this freeze DOES NOT HAPPEN CONSISTENTLY (sometimes it will sometimes it won’t) I do not believe that is what is causing the issue

I also have not been able to find crash reports at either directory indicated in the hyprland wiki (directories don’t exist, cannot CD into them for that reason)

Welcome to the forum @MDRonin ,
I’ve installed over LTS No desktop. I was curious how different it is to ML4W.
It is quite good. I like the clear structure of the config – sometimes it takes more time for me to get oriented in ML4W. There has not been (input) freezing for 2 days with thorium browser on board.
My first suggestion:

journalctl -f

in a terminal to have some clue what’s happening.
