How to uninstall KWrite and Kate

I’ve been trying to remove both KWrite and Kate from my computer for a while now, though for some reason it seems as if both programs can’t be uninstalled in the same way as other ones..? I’ve searched solutions for a bit, and all I found was a few pages on other Linux forums (and it probably isn’t ideal to execute commands from other distributions into this one lol).

I did see one forum in here, though it only addressed the issue of wanting to remove only KWrite, and not Kate. It did say that it was impossible to remove one without the other, so as far as I’m aware there is a way to remove both..? I’m quite confused about this whole thing to be honest.

I was able to remove kate by running:

yay -R kate

Oh my god I’m so stupid lol.. thanks a bunch though! I still gotta get used to the Terminal’s commands..

Sometimes packages are tied to something integral. Like trying to remove ffmpeg, is probably going to upset a lot of things, for example

I wondered you may have hit a similar issue. I’m not sure about removing KWrite though. That from what I can gather, seems to be a part of KDE, but you’d mentioned having details of how to remove that already.

KWrite has been subsumed by the Kate package; it’s actually provided by Kate.

Yep, like @ajgringo619 said, they are part of each other.

You can only uninstall KWrite by uninstalling Kate, and you can’t install Kate without also installing KWrite. And the difference between the features for either are very minimal for non-developers, but somewhat huge for those who are.

Prior to this thread, I hadn’t realised KWrite and Kate were under the hood, the same thing.

I use Kate all the time, and yeah, it’s largely with development. I didn’t even realise I had KWrite installed until I checked for this thread

Kate’s a great little editor. The Notepad++ of Linux.
