How to stop this application from launching on boot?

Hi,

I installed this ChatGPT application and noticed it always launches on boot in the foreground. There is no way within the application GUI to at the very least have it launch minimized, and no option to stop the launch on boot.

How do I go about stopping it launching on boot? And is there also a way to force it to start minimized?

Check if it has added a .desktop file in ~/.config/autostart.

If that is the case, you could remove it (or if you want move it to another folder to save for later).

~/.config/autostart is empty.

How about in /etc/xdg/autostart ?

Not in there, either.

Are you using kde plasma and have ā€œrestore sessionā€ on ? Or perhaps it has a systemd service?

Yes, I am using KDE plasma with restore session turned on. I will note though that even if I close the application and restart after, it still loads it on boot.

Maybe restore session is bugged? Maybe you have wrong permissions on the files where restore session saves its data? Maybe you used a GUI application with sudo sometimes in the past?

Try turning it off and see what happens. Some applications will restore as long as restore session is on. For me regardless as to whether or not firefox is open or closed. It will always restore if restore session is on. Again, for me it is like half the applications work fine with it, half of them straight up ignore it. Probably because they don’t support x11 session restoring and some just do their own thing.

Turns out it was ā€˜restore session’ forcing it to re-open every launch even if it was closed before doing so. That’s strange.

Yeah, some applications just do their own thing with it.
