How to safely remove intel and use modesetting driver

I have been using Endeavouros with XFCE since March without any issues. Mine is a old intel core2duo processor. Of late I am having some display glitches which may due to the hardware also.I heared about modesetting driver.so I just want to try that before changing the hardware. Is it enough to just remove xf86-video-intel package to use modesetting driver? Or do I need to anything else.Note: I am using both LTS kernel and 5.8
Request guidance.Thank you in advance.

Essentially, yes.

However, also check that you don’t have any configuration files which specifically load the intel driver, e.g.: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_graphics#Xorg_configuration

Thanks Jonathon.
I removed xf86-video-Intel and didn’t find any leftover config files related to intel.
I restarted the system, I got a black screen with blinking cursor. I tried to startx from tty login, it doesn’t start.I checked the log,the error is"Modeset(0):Failed to initialize glamour at screenInit() time.

Any suggestions how to overcome this.

That points here:

which suggests your hardware isn’t compatible so you need to use the intel driver.

I remember reading somewhere that older machines need the Intel driver package, but newer don’t.
So essentially one needs to try both ways.

As you suggested, it may be a hardware problem. Or some Arch wiki page may have a nice workaround depending on what kind of display issues you have.
