Nautilus (Files) icon or application does not show up in menu or launch list, but opens in terminal.
Try this: Reinstall Nautilus, then update your icon cache. You may need to log out and log in.
sudo pacman-Syu nautilus && gtk-update-icon-cache
Check if you have any override locally
grep -E "^Display=|^OnlyShow|^NotShow" "$HOME/.local/share/applications/org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop"
If there is no such file, it will show an error.
I cannot think of any other reason for your issue .
This should work, but its just Nautilus not updating. Everything else is fine. Thank You
I do have .local/share/applications/org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop file in that location. Thank You
Rename it to org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop.bkp
, log out, log back in. See if that works.
This should force the use of the one in usr/share
.
EDIT:
- Are you using either a custom or non-default (not pre-installed) theme, by the way?
- Meaning application theme and/or icon theme.
- Also, because you said Nautilus, I’m assuming you are using Gnome
(because “nobody” uses that outside of Gnome). Is that assumption correct? - AND does this happen in both X11 and in Wayland?
Renamed it to **org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop.bkp**
, logged out, logged back in. It was really slow getting back to login screen after logging out. Nautilus is back into apps list with default icon (Adwaita). Thank you so much

As for this, I’d like you to check this the next time you reboot.
Log in, then log back out. Does it still take a long time?
