I am using multiple workspaces, however when I switch between them, some applications tend to pause while they are not on focused desktop.
It is most noticeable with games.
I have not found any relevant information for this issue while looking around, the only thing I found is vk_xwayland_wait_ready which does nothing for me.
There were some advices about using gamescope but it doesn’t work well with nvidia, neither it helps in my case.
Check if it behaves this way on X, i’ve had similar things happening since I switched to wayland (Hyprland)
So I think this might be hyprland related behavior, e.g. using X instead might be a potential solution if this is bothering you.
On hyprland I can open a sort of overlay workspace, forgot what it’s actually called, but it allows me to have the undelrying workspace running in the meantime which prevents them from pausing. Maybe KDE has something similar available?
However, the behavior you described is sometimes as the application itself is designed, for instance it’s not uncommon for games to have an option to control if it keeps running or pauses in the background, sometimes even with more nuanced control such as stopping only the audio when the window isn’t focused.
It is not a game option. I also cannot check whether or not it works on X as I have various other issues with X.
It doesn’t seem like KDE has the same option like Hyprland.
It’s called special workspace in hyprland. And yeah I don’t see anything equivalent in kde at a quick search, maybe activities…
