How to find and activate my ssd

Hello all,

I installed EndeavourOS on my first SSD.

Then I bought a new one for additional space. But I can’t find it in eos. What did I wrong?

I have no experience with Linux or terminal at all.

Hope to find help here.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. :enos: :enos_flag:

Did you partition the SSD ?
You can create a partition (or more than one) using either Gparted or Partition Manager , depending of what DE you are on.

How did you connect said drive? (EXTERNAL, INTERNAL)

what is the result of
lsblk

Thank you.

The SSD isn’t partitioned yet. It’s new.
I downloaded gparted and it shows me just my first SSD.
I use KDE Plasma 6.

lsblk shows:

NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINTS
sda 8:0 0 238,5G 0 disk
├─sda1 8:1 0 1G 0 part /efi
└─sda2 8:2 0 237,5G 0 part /
sdb 8:16 0 37,3G 0 disk
└─sdb1 8:17 0 37,3G 0 part
sdc 8:32 1 0B 0 disk

The drive is connected internally with a S-ATA3 cable and power connector.
When i see it correctly, the second drive is there but just 37,3 GB size. But the drive has a size of 500 GB

Did you click the down arrow besides the display of your first drive?

Since you’re on KDE Plasma 6, Try KDE’s partition manager.

yay-S partitionmanager

I feel Gnome’s is clunky. KDE Partition Manager is a bit more sleek, no dropdowns, shows your drives on the left.

I see. My mistake. I found the other drive. But there is only a 37 GB partition no more space.

Can you post a screenshot of this device from your partition manager?

sudo parted -l

What is the output?

Have you checked if the drive is present in the BIOS.

This is the disk you have problem with? It looks you have only one partition with 40GB size.
Do you have some data on that partition? If you don’t have, make a new partition table on that disk. Make it GPT and not msdos.

Well the only link I could find concerning a P300 is this , and that is a 50 GB ssd.

Wow, they still MAKE things of that low capacity intentionally?

Just as surprised as you are , but my guess would be that is a small laptop drive with a sort of recovery system in place for Windows (maybe).

A fraudulent disk?

Could this be 50 GB instead of 500? If you purchased a 500 GB then maybe you should take it back to where you got it and tell them that the one they gave you is only Showing 50 GB.

this makes more since with the 37 gig free space the OP reported having

Well It could be if it is bought from e.g. Ebay, but if this is a laptop it also could be a drive present , that the TS isn´t aware of for recovery or whatever. But that is hard to tell without knowing more about the type of computer (or laptop) it is.

That would be about the right size for that purpose (about all it could do).

Best way to check I guess is pull out the new bought SSD and see what it says on the label.

Op claims its new but if from somewhere like ebay then its possible the OP got a bad deal.
