How to debug XFCE freezes, after closing Opera

So this started maybe one month ago, and I don’t know where to start to debug it. I tried logs, but no luck.

  1. I’m using Opera Browser with hardware video decoding enabled
  2. After longer usage, when I close the browser, XFCE will freeze - for 15-120 seconds

During this time:

  • RAM is being freed (ex. from 40% to 10%)
  • I can move mouse cursor
  • but UI is unresponsive (ex. Eyes gadget in taskbar is not reacting, I’m unable to click anything)

After freeze, system gets back to normal.

If I open and close browser - issue does not occur. If I play some video in browser - issue does not occur. Only when I use browser for a longer time.

I use LQX Kernel, no swap file, integrated Intel GPU on old i7

Checked journalctl and Xorg.0.log - nothing obvious. Not sure what I can check more. Any ideas?

You can set the XFSM_VERBOSE environment variable and then reboot. When defined, this environment variable enables debugging messages to be saved to ~/.xfce4-session.verbose-log
