How to Activate nvidia

It just booted to black screen with flashing cursor. I logged in using the instructions in the link (CTRL+Alt+F3) but I could get nowhere.

In any case I have completely reinstalled the system and am configuring it as I’m writing this.

Maybe someday someone will devise an easy (and I mean EASY) means of activating nVidia on Arch-based systems.

But, until that day, I’m forgetting about it!

Well this is why i won’t buy a laptop with Intel graphics and or Hybrid graphics. I am looking at ones with AMD GPU onboard.

Anyway i would have had you install it differently and i have done it with a number of people and had success. But there is always the chance that it doesn’t configure properly with the Intel and you end up booting to a black screen.

If i was going to tell you i would advise to use the nvidia-dkms version instead. I also would run the test first and see if it shows it will install without any errors. Still there is no guarantee you won’t run into an issue. I would be recommending the optimus manager as opposed to the optimus switch. There is a difference in the way it works but ultimately gets you the same result of running the laptop off of the nvidia graphics instead of the Intel. When you change graphics it has to reboot and boot up using the other card. The difference is one runs solely on Nvidia which uses more power so battery life goes down faster. This way you only use it when you want to. Then switch back. There are three different methods to accomplish using the Hybrid graphics. None are fool proof. Please read the bottom of this page and you’ll understand more.

Edit: I’m not an expert by no stretch of the imagination. @linesma probably has more experience with it and his version also but i have done the optimus-manager a number of times along with lots of Nvidia driver installs. But like i say there is no guarantee everything will go smooth.

Maybe this will help . I have the RTX 2070 setup using the Optumis Manager . This is the instructions I used . Only thing I did different was used the DKMS installer . This was done about 3 to 4 months ago . Maybe things have changed , but would try it .

When you read it will explain that Bumblebee needs to be installed but de-activeated After Optumis Manager installed .
Read and it will explain all . Not hard to do . Don’t give up as I found these instructions easy . Hope this helps You …
Using the KDE Desktop …

on newer optimus systems it should not be needed to install bumblebee at all.
But currently there is no clear indication for the one and only working solution for all possible systems…

there are all over 4 different ways to handle, the most common used (for newer systems) is optimus-manager:

And also some users say that they have to use optimus-manager-qt on GTK DE to get it working.
