I am thinking to switch but i don’t know if I should switch. I need to know if it’s stable and actually works.
Try it for some time in a VM and get a first hand experience.
Each system, each configuration and each use case is different so users may have a bit different experiences.
Some points of consideration:
systemd-boot
btrfs # faster snapshot creation
install:
lts kernel as well
timeshift imeshift-autosnap
these make your sytem safer to avoid unbootable system after a failed update IMHO.
Hey there!
To be honest with you I think it’s the most stable system I’ve had. Definitely the most stable arch based distro.
Of course being arch based I don’t use it for work, so your mileage may vary, but so far I’ve had basically no issues with it, and I do tinker quite a bit.
The only times I’ve had any issues was with some updates that required some sort of manual intervention or were just borked, but literally as soon as I noticed something was off, I headed here and there was already a thread with all the relevant information, links, explanations and needed commands.
We don’t all use computers the same, so your experience might be different (and there’s always the classic Linux surprise of ‘your hardware’s just not playing nice’), but mine has been pretty stellar.
Thank you, this response I take to heart and same with the other ones. But honestly, I am distro hopping and I’ve used manjaro and it seemed fine, (I switched to pop os from manjaro) I like extreme customisation but I also game a bit and I like a stable distro where I don’t have to every second of my time to trouble shoot (Also I like little ram usage so yk that’s why I am considering) I am not too sure I should switch, should I? Because I’ve seen a ton of people with nice and a beautiful desktop and with like small ram usage (from my experience of manjaro)
The only reason I did switch from manjaro to pop os is because of the history that has happened and stability (used to) be at a all time low.
I have been using it for over two months now and had no issues with anything. I update my system once a week on a Saturday and none of the updates have cause any issues.
I used to use Windows 11 and 10 before (And used all versions since XP) and so far Endeavour OS has felt the best for me, simple, easy to use, not cluttered and haven’t had any issues.
Are you currently planning to switch from Windows or from another Linux system?
It may be best to test in a VM or through the live ISO first. I don’t know what you use your PC for but there could be some software that won’t work due to lack of support. But the OS itself is perfectly stable to answer your question. But this can depend on your PC, is it a laptop or a desktop system?
This OS has handled everything I have thrown at it, I have two 4K monitors, played all sorts of games at 4K some at max raytracing level and been perfectly fine. I have done creative tasks via image editors and drawing software with my drawing tablet too. Basically everything has worked straight away for me, external audio amp/DAC also worked too which was a worry for me considering I recently bought it at the time.
Hi, I have Manjaro installed on two of my raspberry pi machines and I have just installed Endeavouros on my third Pi. Endeavouros is much more stable than the Manjaro on Raspberry Pi 5 s, in my opinion. And I am going to change to Endeavouros on the other two machines.
I use a medion crawler e30 md62547 (might not help but just saying) I have used another arch distro before so I don’t think there will be much problem
Never mind, just saw your message after typing mine. You were is in a similar position to me, I tested about 9 different OSs before deciding with Endeavour.
Originally I didn’t know whether you were coming from Windows or something.
Nine different OS’s? Thats quite crazy ngl
But I just do wanna know should I switch (after I test live iso)?
My choice is slipping to endeavour but I just want maybe some more from the community, because it’s nice to have good and affirm opinions
Very very stable! No other distro has worked this good/stable! (sure some i tried years ago, but still).
EndeavourOS is the best and most stable Arch distro or any distro!
You can’t find any better!(and yes I have become a huge fan boy of EndeavourOS )
Lovely, im just going to test out the live iso and just see
Yeah do that! It’s best way to get a feel for the distro!
performance may not be as great as installed keep that in mind.
If Endeavour OS works and seems fine after the initial test and is seems to be suitable OS for you then I think it will work fine without issues. However, only you can decide to switch or not if it ticks all the boxes for you.
There are 8 different desktop environments fro EOS so you may want to give those a try, not all of them but EOS pretty much has an option for everyone’s use styles.
If you want me to say whether I would recommend EOS then I would on the basis it works fine for me and preferred the feel and how it runs compared to other distros.
The iso uses 6.9.6arch1-1 (kernel) , is that not at EOL
Welcome to the forum. If you are curious about EOS, just give it a try. For me it was my first arch based sysem. I used to dabble in different Debian based systems. And I remember having to reinstall from time to time either cause I did something wrong or I got bored. When I made the switch to EOS i have only had a few minor issues that thanks to the forum and google I have been able to correct. I have been here since October of 2022 and it has been going strong. Your mileage may vary, but if you take care of your system it will take care of you IMHO. Best of luck in your decision
My country isn’t even listed in the isos
That is an older version but if I’m not mistaken once it’s installed a full system update will bring it up to date to the most recent version.
I will admit though it’s been a couple months since I used that ISO but this is what I done the last time I installed it.
