High RAM usage with no apps running

Hello guys, I noticed a high RAM usage when just being on my desktop with no apps running, I don’t know why. I am a beginner so I don’t know what settings I should touch. I am using KDE Plasma 6.0.5 X11. My RAM usage in the desktop is >2Gb.
any help will be appreciated and if you need more info just ask.

How are you measuring RAM usage?

Keep in mind, Linux memory management may not work the way you are used to with other OSes. High memory usage isn’t a bad thing unless you need the memory for other processes.

I mesure it with the widget from KDE I assume. it just says used Physical memory: 2.2Gb

It probably isn’t a meaningful number for the reasons mentioned in the linked article.

Linux doesn’t try to minimize memory use when the memory is not needed by something else.

Great article.
Thanks, @dalto.
