Hi everyone, happy to be here!

When I say tried, I mean with any conviction of moving for good.

I’m on it… good to have my old friend back

I have memories of WinAmp with this skin

and this one

the old one is nice too, though.

Actually, speaking of WinAmp, I remembered at one point that they said they will go open source with the app. I went to search and it seems they will release the code on the 24th of September 2024

Done, it’s looking good and working well.
It’s got it’s small place on my desktop

I believe you as you said it @smokey
But this raises a big question, Why?

They weren’t putting in any time to learn was what it boiled down to
I told them I was happy to write them a simple guide with screenshots like I’d done for another guy but they had no interest in that either.

2 years! Learn?!
Sorry, I don’t get it!
2 years means they installed the system, installed software, updated the system… What would a “normal” non techie user need more than that?!

Maybe they didn’t even do that? I kind of doubt it, though.

As @winnyace just said, they didn’t install the system, programs or update. They used to rely on me but I refuse to help people anymore who don’t want to learn. (Especially when the basics are pretty easy)

Same here. I doubt it, nobody can just have the system installed and that’s it. I bet they have installed whatever software(s), a browser perhaps (at least).
Even if they were happy with the default packages already installed, then… I don’t get it. I can never imagine 2 years on Linux then back to windows!

I guess they will cal @smokey again to get back to Linux after “enjoying” all the “fun” that windows offer

At this point, those aren’t even pretty easy, they’re downright one click and finish deals on some distros, even on some decently advanced ones. I guess they really weren’t interested in Linux.

I think if they do call I’ll tell them they can learn to install it themselves.

I envy them for being that “patient” and satisfied with what they got!

Well, they deserve it, they did it to themselves

Weren’t interested! For 2 years!
Again, I envy them for their patience!

I guess it would depend on what they used their system for. Most people would probably be extremely content with just a web browser and whatever defaults something like Linux Mint gives them.

Yes, most people just use the browser, listen to music, watch some phots, videos… as simple as that.
If this was their case I can’t understand or find a reason to request returning back to windows!

Either they finally wanted to do something else with their system or went “oh wait why did I install Linux? Why am I here? What’s this? WHERE AM I!? AAAAAAAAAAAA” and they asked Smokey for help.

Hopefully less dramatically than how I imagined it

Yeah, for the casual use case GNU/Linux is the system that Just Works®. The more niche the use case gets, the trickier it might be to use it comfortably, but at least the progress is made.

This being said, welcome to the forum and congratz on ditching Windows, @BlasterDr0id957.

Sorry, I was joking a bit. I did the same as you and I also have no reason to go back.
