New to Endeavour and to Linux. Cut my teeth on a Commodore 64 and DOS back in the day, though, so Terminal-based OS’s don’t really frighten me; it’s just a new system to learn new commands for, and while I wasn’t brave enough to dive headfirst into Arch directly, my wife and I thought this sounded like a fantastic alternative–a great GUI to use as a crutch while still being pretty reliant on the Terminal.
I’m not great at keeping up with forums, especially around a full-time job, but I know I’m going to have issues I’ll need experienced help with sooner or later, so figured I’d stop in and say hi.
These days, I’m primarily a gamer; wasn’t terribly concerned about security until Drumpf 1.0 hit the tower, and now that we’re living under Drumpf 2.0, I’m a lot more concerned about it. When I got f-you money from an injury settlement at work and built a badly-needed new system a few days ago, there was no way in hell I was installing Win11 on it, so my wife and I did some research on Linux distros, and that’s how I wound up here.
Anyway, that’s enough rambling from me. Nice meeting you all~

This is the first time I’ve had a decent amount of money to put together a computer when I’ve actually needed to. AMD Ryzen 9 9950x3d, NVidia 5070 Ti, 64GB of RAM, two 4TB M.2 drives (and a 2TB HDD salvaged from my last build), and a Cooler Master Haf 700 Evo case with 16 friggin’ fans (which is one of my first problems I’d like to tackle; will give details if curious). Also the first time I’ve played with water cooling–picked up a Be Quiet Light Loop AIO CPU cooler. Would love to get into DIY water cooling because so many of those setups look cool as hell, but money has always been tight and I am terrified of messing that up!
Absolutely. I got REAL tired of getting ads for things on my phone that I’d talked about on Discord a few days prior.
Nicest thing anyone (who’s not one of my partners) has said to me all day. Thank you <3 I’ve mostly gotten self-deprecating “humor” out of my repertoire, but it sometimes sneaks its way into “ice-breaker” type situations when I’m not thinking.
