[HELP!] System is stuck in this broken state

Hey guys, I was just editing a file in the terminal (vim) and then suddenly the cursor didn’t move, I thought something’s just weird with vim today and just closed the terminal. That’s when everything went into freeze mode and nothing was responding. After about 5 minutes system went into shutdown mode on its own…BUT it didn’t even shut down properly. This has NEVER happened before.

And now this is all I see. I’m just letting the battery drain for now. How do I recover from this? Will this destroy my system?

I would think that holding the power button is better than letting a full power failure occur.

From there .. you are probably gonna wanna at least run fsck from a live environment (ISO/USB) on those partitions.

The original anecdote sounds somewhat absurd .. but may be some combination of a runaway process and a watchdog (which can try to shutdown the system under certain circumstances).

Thanks for responding, yes it finally shut down after holding power button. I just started it without configuring it with that fsck tool. Everything works as usual but I wanna ensure this doesn’t happen again. I’m new to Linux there’s like a journal-something something command where I can see the logs for why this happened right? Can you gimme the command for that?

journalctl -b -1

Will be the journal from last boot .. you can send it to a file or modify it, such as to print the last 500 lines;

journalctl -b -1 | tail -n 500
