Hello.
I’m trying to make my main monitor work in 144Hz, but whenever I set it to that rate in display settings, it just goes black. Here’s my setup:
KDE Plasma 6.2.3, Wayland
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, nvidia-utils 565.57.01-1
Acer Nitro VG240Y S, HDMI connection
Samsung syncMaster BX2235, VGA->DP connection
Like previously mentioned, I want my Acer monitor to work in 144Hz, but can’t figure out why it’s going black.
One possible clue I discovered, was that my nvidia-settings doesn’t really show any information. Although I’m not too sure what to make of it.
Hi, thanks for the answer.
I tried it just now, but it did not seem to change much. One additional thing I found out, was that the monitor works fine with 120Hz.
Do you think it might be related to the HDMI connection? I read somewhere that DisplayPort is needed for 144Hz on Linux, but I find it hard to believe.
No support for HDMI 2.1 (and thus high refresh rates combined with high resolutions) is only an issue with AMD GPUs on Linux. They are currently not allowed to implement it in their open source driver.
Nvidia should work fine over HDMI.
I had a quick look at the specs of the monitor and it lists support for 144Hz for both HDMI and DisplayPort. Some Monitors have restrictions there. They don’t list the HDMI version tho.
Regardless you should try with DisplayPort and see if it behaves the same.
