Just wanted to appreciate the OS and community around it.
As time flies I am now 40 years old and from germany.
Started my Linux experience about two to three years ago I believe. Being fed up with windows and generally interested in protecting my data and such I started with Pop_OS! after some research.
But having a Nvidia GPU got me in trouble (drivers) sooner or later.
So I searched for a solution and switched to Nobara which I was happy with a long time. Sadly in the end I also got trouble with drivers.
My next step then was Opensuse Tumbleweed. I learned to love the snapper tool, it saved my system more then once. But after some time I got trouble with drivers again and so I did some more research. I thought of getting back to Nobara cause it was my best experience to this day. But I read from EndeavourOS and Arch.
At first I was afraid of Arch cause of it being a terminal centric distro and I am still a newbie at Linux. But then I just tried EndeavourOS and besides some minor hickups at the beginning I never had problems with drivers. It was a revelation.
Someone asked me once if I want to change back to windows cause of some troubleshooting I did at that time. Without hesitation I said āNo, neverā.
Drivers, particularly Nvidia, can be an issue with any distro. There may come a time where you have is issue with Nvidia while using EOS/Arch, too. Just remember, this forum/community has a stellar reputation of helping fellow EOS users try to overcome such issues. So if ever you find that Nvidia drivers causing a hiccup or two, never be afraid to seek help in the forum.
While I donāt have a Nvidia GPU, I can say that EndeavourOS have been rock solid for me. Enjoy your EOS Journey!
You too, I told myself I was going to force myself to have one but got an idea a few hours ago and have been working away on it since. Thank god I have a party to go to tomorrow.
Arch is great for that bleeding edge āeverythingās freshā mentality, and EOS smoothens some of those rough edges for sure. Itās been a while for me, but Windows is very much a distant memory around v8. Iām grateful for everything Linux provides, - learning, freedom, confidence to blaze your own trail and own your compute experience. Enjoy the journey!
MfG.
Pretty much this. As a non-Arch user In the Linux community the vanilla arch experience is told in legends and stigma as the upper elite, for the uber-smart, the hardest distro, with the roughest snarkiest community on the internet. While this may be a draw for some, I was intimidated by it.
Endeavour was a revelation as it checks none of those boxes. When it embraced me I was amazed at how incredible this OS did business. Itās as āterminal-centricā as you want to be as there other ways to do things, but the terminal is fine with me for most tasks.
Welcomeāthis is a perfect place for a newbie imo. Look at the forum search for āIdiotās Guideā and you will find the mini-bible you need for monthly maintenance.
Hi, @Eulenspiegel , enjoy rolling with EOS and its community. I suppose you already discovered the German part of the forum?
Iāve been using Linux for at least 20 years now and donāt use Windows myself. But as Iām the family āpc wizardā I do still occasionally have to troubleshoot and repair Windows machines or help people to get to grips with their OS -and every time I do that Iām very happy that I am on Linuxā¦
I was also second guessing the choice to go with an Arch based distro, but this community and this Distro is awesome. What Arch Wiki canāt solve, this Forum seems to cover!
