Hello :-) from a returnee

Hi, I was here a few years ago, but needed to retire from living on the edge, lol, and went to sysV/debian. Since having to buy a new pc over new year, and the distro’s new version having to be used on that, lots of permissions issues, missing lib32 stuff, etc, and unfortunately not assistance. So I thought of trying Endeavour again; always liked the distro and community, but held back for general linux reasons. EndeavourOS is impressive as always, although I myself, if at all possible, am less tech savvy than I was before, lol. 32bit libs work great, and it’s a relief to not be hitting obstructions for basic things. Do need to follow up in the newbie section as have hit a freefilesync issue that may be systemd-related, but nothing else has needed to be asked about, which is great testament to EndeavourOS. I may not be super-active, but just wanted to post appreciation and say hi.

Hey welcome back! Whether you’re using EOS or not, you’re always welcome here. A lot of the skills and learning you get from EOS are applicable in other Linux distros, and vice versa. Use the tools that work for you, - no special club with a secret handshake needed  Enjoy the journey!

Hey @Canoe  Thanks for your warm welcome. You’re right that there’s always useful learning; always easier when you have fun doing that, and can have a laugh and chat along the way. Great to be part of the community. Thanks again, and have a good day.

Lol haha, yes, definitely superfast. :+1: Tbh I didn’t even notice sysV, except for when needing to choose the sysV Mullvad installer, and no issues ever cropped up due to it; sysV just took care of things really well.

I’ve only been back in systemd-land briefly and only so far encountered systemd mounting external drives differently to before. Would be cool if drive names showed in file manager tabs when selected, as before, but that might be me not setting up things correctly, lol. Was great to find Disks could be used to get external drives mounted and take ownership, and that enabled freefilesync to work … fluffs up a bit if I unplug/replug the external drives hub, so I’ll just need to get some good habits about that. Some things aren’t set up yet, but was really easy today to just install ifuse and have Pocketbook connect to the PC, so that’s eased concerns about devices/systemd.

I’d still choose sysV tbh, but am enjoying eOS so much, and about to reinstall with Cinnamon where I’ve seen that adapta theme and graphics tablet gui work, so, it’s great to have desktop options and that everything works so well. :enos_flag: :trophy:

EDIT: just discovered lost 200g data from an external, a whole folder of backups, eek, yet the drive doesn’t show that as gone in Caja whereas Disks does show 200gb as being gone but that the file system is fine/intact. All I can think is the fluff up yesterday, between ffs and externals, where had to reboot, has done that, or drive failing. Can’t attend to this just yet, but will look into it later/see about posting a thread.
