Long time PC user here, was using Linux way back (10 years maybe) but life got in the way…
My New Year’s conviction though was to revisit things that made me smile, among these are PCs (hardware and software - especially Open Source projects) and Gaming..
I’m in the process of migrating my PCs to Linux and the distributions that caught my eye are EndeavourOS and CachyOS.EndeavourOS
For my main PC (MSI Thin Laptop : i7 12th gen / 64Gb DDR4 RAM / 2Tb NVME / RTX 4060) I am going with EndeavourOS as it impressed me for the great installation procedure - 5’ to configure the installation and 2’30” for the actual online installation!!
What sold me though is the great community you have here! Great attitude and great people!
Thank you for the great distribution, hope to stick around for a long time..
Hey! Good to have you with us! Always fun choosing what distro to use for your rigs. Endeavour’s been my main for several years now, but underneath it all, Linux is Linux, and the core bits and pieces are what really count. Enjoy your journey and welcome back to a little spot of freedom and fun!
The only thing as tip i have is…enjoy! Everything works out of the box for me. I have a MSI Crosshair 15 B12UGSZ. I did a max upgrade 2 and half years ago, i added 64gb of ram in it and 2x 4tb nvme drives. Since september 2024 i switched fully to Linux with this notebook.
The only thing you “can” install (if needed) is mcontrolcenter. It’s a msi center but much better. I did not test that app yet because i always use coolerboost for gaming.
This is my first post on this forum, happy to be here! I have once again returned from the sith overlords and have decided to sacrifise some of my video games in order to have a fully functional operating system.
I do have a homelab, so none of this is new to me. Last time i was gaming on linux, i was having some stutters in Rocket League - but i tried it a few hours ago and i am honestly impressed by how well it runs now. I am obsessed once again!
I was digging through the default keyboard shortcuts and found this incredible shortcut to transform open windows. You know when you have a non-maximized window that you only want to make slightly smaller? Well, apparently.. you can do SUPER + RMB (KDE Plasma) near the edge of the window and you can now transform it both X and Y axis! With these kinds of features, i still don’t understand how Linux is still the underdog in this business. Its incredible the things it can do.
Anyways, enough yapping from me - its nice to meet you all
Hi @lyricism - yeah, KDE/Plasma has come a long way, I think. From the late 5.x and now the 6.x iterations it’s evolved in a solid, adjustable and user centric DE. At least for my use case.
