Hello, used to be here and troubleshoot a lot, I think close to the beginning of EOS until about 2024.
Not sure what happened but for work we switched all my team to System 76/Pop OS since they are located in the state right next to mine. I kind of stopped distro hopping, and Arch was too many updates and then slowly been less in this forum. Used to enjoy it, now thinking of trying EOS on one of my rig and just saying hello, I might be back I haven’t tried gnome or kde or i3 for a long while, curious what evolved and what’s news. I just heard the AUR issue recently. Been a while I haven’t followed linux news. I don’t even know which desktop I will try first but I am somewhat curious about the state of KDE although I used to be a gnome guy, then focused only on wms which are fun!
Hey, welcome back! I cant really suggest a DE since I am partial to and use a window manager (openbox) instead since I like a more minimalistic “hands on” approach to my installed distros.
Hey welcome back, Plasma is my go to when it comes to DEs but I also quite like WMs like Openbox/i3, it just depends on the task. But for day to day use Plasma as it just feel right to me after I make my tweaks which I can have done in about 5/10minutes after install.
hey thanks for the replies I am leaning towards trying KDE but for sure want to tinker and have fun setting up i3wm as I forgot how this works! Better to install KDE first I reckon then get i3. I just recall that EOS had a super nice i3wm version, maybe I just need the config file and check which packages to install afterwards. Probably somewhere on github EOS website if I recall correctly.
I’ve tried a few desktop environments (gnome, cinnamon, mate) besides KDE, but I have to say that KDE is my favorite. It’s the most modern and intuitive to use, in my opinion. I prefer it to all the others.
Hello @Zircon34 and welcome back! Yes, KDE is my default choice. I did Pop for a good while. Even tried the Cosmic spin. I dunno, I was just never into it. I’m thinking of ordering their new Lemur Pro (all intel, including the iGPU). Assuming I do, I’d probably re-try it, only to wipe it and install Endeavour on it. I’ve distro hopped a LOT lately. But darn, I keep coming back to Endeavour!
