Hi everyone! Windows refugee here.
I’ve used Windows ever since I was a kid during the Win98 days, and always stayed pretty loyal to the brand over the years. A lot of the magic for me was gone even with Windows 10 honestly, as the last good Windows in my eyes was 7. Ever since I was forced to upgrade to 10 I’ve been looking for an excuse to move on to something else. Finally with Linux gaming in incredible shape (the Steam Deck definitely did really good convincing for me over the last year), I vowed after the new year to migrate to Linux for real as I have no more excuses.
I’ve actually dabbled in Linux before, installing Ubuntu 10 on my PC (I don’t say old PC because I’m in a bit of a Ship of Theseus situation that started in ~2007). Of course back when I installed Ubuntu, gaming on Linux was pretty sad, and I was a teenager at the time so naturally I immediately abandoned ship back to Windows 7 lol.
Fast forward to now, and I did finally commit and install Linux Mint in January right after the New Year, and I stuck with it for a couple weeks and loved it. But the itch to tinker from my olden days returned, and I’ve rediscovered my love of computers. Basically, Mint got a bit too boring for my taste, and I decided to go for a new distro.
Everything basically pointed me in the direction of CachyOS, but I watched a performance benchmark video where someone was comparing CachyOS gaming performance to other distros and he mentioned he uses EndeavourOS. I had never heard of it before this, so I looked it up- and the space theme immediately won me over. As a Linux noob I was definitely put off a bit at first with how there’s no software center or comfortable features like Mint has- but honestly it’s really not that bad using the terminal.
Anyways, loving Endeavour so far, and wanted to say hi and use this opportunity to thank the devs and community that helped shape this distro!
