Has anyone run into games they haven't been able to play at all?

I don’t really play any games outside of Steam. But I have close to 150 games on Steam and every single one of them can be installed on my system. For so long I was worried about switching to Linux solely because a lot of time I spend on my computer is gaming and didn’t want to - you know, not be able to game haha

I haven’t actually installed and ran every single one of the games in my library but after installing a couple dozen I’ve literally had no issues whatsoever.

Just curious if anyone’s fully switched over and had to give up a game here and there. (I did have to give up Xbox PC Game Pass - but oh well)

There are lots of games that won’t work. Tons of multiplayer and other live service games have anti-cheat solutions that don’t work on Linux.

It really depends what you play.

Valve has worked hard (because of the Steam Deck) in getting Proton and Wine up to speed for the tasks. It’s simply amazing how far we’ve come.

As @dalto already stated, many of the games with Anticheat tech don’t work. That’s a given. But there are strange other games, games that do strange stuff. One example was Giana Sisters - Twisted Dreams, which for the longest time was not running under Linux.

Checking now however I can see that it is Steam Deck Verified, so that situation seems to have been resolved.

What you can quite regularly see is that certain launchers (2k, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts) break games compatibility for Linux. It usually gets resolved by the very good people supporting Wine and/or Proton, but that can happen and has happened to me.

Im just curious what games they might be haha. I seriously haven’t ran into one yet, aside from FaceIt CS2.

Agreed. It’s awesome, year of the penguin!

ProtonDB is a good place to check. This listing is sorted by “Most Borked”:

Some games may have a decent rating, like “Gold”, but if you look at the comments, you’ll see more recent anti-cheat updates and such have broken them.
