I can’t enable hardware aceeleration on browser(brave,chrome,chromium,firefox).
Sometimes it will get strange high temperature.
And fan noise even with low usage.
At first,I thought it was a hardware acceleration issue, but then I found out that the laptop would also be hot while sleep with the lid closed, which was very strange.
I could open dozens of tabs or a lot of apps and don’t shutdown for a month but keep cold and almost dont need to fan work on ubuntu 22.04.I miss that time even I hate their policy about snap.
I have try every solution that I can find, such as arch wiki, google, reddit for almost a month.
add chrome flags
install vp9 packages
change grub file
install optimus(after Installed I can’t launch KDE so that I must change to tty3 and uninstall it)
They don’t work.
Btw,I heard EOS use another app instead of mkinitcpio?Would that make any difference?
Thanks for all kind guys and sorry for my bad English,I can share any device information if you need
some log information in chrome://gpu

Edit : I remeber I haven’t use the nvidia way to install,Should I do that? : (
Firstly, I believe if you have drivers installed correctly, hardware acceleration shouldn’t be a problem. What does pacman -Qs nvidia return?
Secondly, on EndeavourOS, you need to install nbfc-linux for automatic fan control based on temperature. Installing it is pretty simple, since it is an AUR package:
to install, you do: yay -S nbfc-linux
afterwards, see if sudo nbfc config --set auto works for you
IF it does, sudo nbfc start will start things immediately and sudo systemctl enable nbfc_service will make the process run at boot
I downloaded nbfc-linux and then it tells me that there is no recommended configuration. Then I randomly chose a ROG configuration. It looks a little better but still not quiet and cold like on ubuntu , I need to observe for a while.
Can you tell me how you installed and setup eos (desktop environment and installation options)?
I think our hardware is similar. Mine is amd 5800h+1650 mobile.
Sorry I am an arch newbie,I just don’t understand why there are a lot of different bugs after several reinstallations. I Planning to reinstall again during school winter holiday
I used the default desktop environment, with no extra options. I guess that there isn’t a fan profile for NBFC for your laptop. Reinstalls won’t really help because this is, more or less, a DIY distro.
And if your device is an hybrid optimus notebook, you will need to switch the nvidia on to be used manually also if nvidia drivers are installed, default in this case is that it will boot on the igpu and you can switch decent nvidia gpu on per application (from command)
Thank you very much for your answer, I’ll test it out in a few days after my school exam.
I’m very cautious now, and every time I get a new piece of software I test to see if it’s working, and then I use timeshift to take a snapshot, because I’m not familiar with linux, so I have to use this stupid way.
I feel much better after reinstall eos, for example in terms of temperature. I don’t know what the reason is, how mystrey, hahahah
I wonder if it’s a problem with my country’s network firewall? Sometimes I can’t connect to the internet outside of China, is this likely to affect my installation?
For example, there may be several scripts that fail?
this would made install fail but in case something is not working on OS installation Calamares installer would fail and stop the process with a warning.
