I think it’s more or less only Finnish tradition (I’m not certain if it appears for example in Swedish folklore). On my childhood and on my family it was always the rooster that hid the eggs, not bunny (I’m from Eastern-Finland).
It originates from Orthodox tradition. It most likely came to there from the Bible passage where the rooster crows three times when St. Peter forbades the Christ.

Interesting, here roosters are only good for one thing (and it’s not directly producing or hiding eggs)

I think in Sweden we use the bunny but it probably Varies among family’s.
But I never believed in it and I always asked for money instead of candy in my egg and if I got candy anyway I sold it to my brother after he had eaten all his candy for exorbitant prices!

just fed and watered my dog and I’m about to go meet my dad at Starbucks for a coffee with him. so far this day has been really good.
