Hacking ROM Files with GNOME (Okteta)

Hello!

I have recently installed Endeavour OS to replace Manjaro, And I am already trying to enable Single GPU passthrough on QEMU. I’m following this guy that goes by aa6 on youtube, and his tutorial is Great! Now I do need to edit a .rom file. In the tutorial he uses okteta, A hex editor. Now, since I installed the GNOME DE (my personal favourite) Okteta isn’t working. It DOES turn on, however it does show up the GUI, Nothing in terminal either.

From what I’ve guessed on the flatpak saying something about KDE, I guess it only works on KDE.

Is there a good alternative to Okteta that can do what I need?

Thank you in advance.

Have you tried the version from the repos? Or only flatpak?

I have only tried the version from the repos, I didn’t use the flatpak version because I usually have issues with flatpak, I could give that one a shot aswell…

You can try ghex for a hex editor under Gnome.

Ayyy! Thanks!

While that can open my file, and I can edit it, I can’t search for characters (Or char, in okteta)

I need to be able to find VIDEO in the file.

Edit: I changed it to ASCII and that worked! Thank you!!!
