I was playing Assassin’s Creed Syndicate last fall and it was working great until around late december/early january. All I remember is that I ran a general update using sudo pacman -Syu and ever since the graphics of the game have been broken. The only real issue is the main character model constantly has vertex explosions. Originally, I tried freezing the mesa and vulkan-intel versions to ones where the game was working but around february/march this completely broke my OS and the display just wouldn’t work. I would boot into the OS with nothing but a black screen and a blinking cursor. I eventually fixd this by accessing the terminal and then updating the drivers to the latest version but then the game was still broken. I have spent many hours with Gemini trying to fix it but it constantly tells me to use various proton configurations within steam and none of them work.
I am pretty new to linux but to me intuitively this seems like an extremely long amount of time for a graphics issue to persist and feel like something might be messed up on my end specifically.
Does anyone have any idea of what might be wrong and how to fix it?
Please feel free to ask questions here when you get stuck with something, dealing with an ongoing issue for months must have been quite a pain!
The first step for us, will be trying to understand more about your system. Can you please share your hardware info. This command will generate a link that you can share here, with your hardware overview:
inxi -Fxxc0z | eos-sendlog
After a fresh reboot, run this command right away to grab your boot log. Please also share the link it generates:
I haven’t spotted anything noteworthy in the system details or logs.
What comes to mind though, if it was after an update, is perhaps Proton was updated, and Assassin’s Crredt Syndicate might have preferred / run better using the older version?
Have you tried dropping back to an earlier version of Proton, for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate?
