How about just running yay without further options? It seems to synchronize the databases and updates first repo packages and then those from AUR.

That’s too easy! Actually I just like to do them separately, as the AUR updates are a rarer beast - and I don’t tend to leave the repo updates that long!

That is fine because it updates the databases and then the repo packages followed by the AUR packages.

Just my opinion but doing things like the below is holdover thinking from when AUR helpers weren’t as reliable as they are today.

sudo pacman -Syu && yay -Sua

I think there is no point to doing it this way anymore. yay does the exact same thing and doesn’t require much memorization or aliases.
