Goodbye Budgie 10, Hello Budgie 11

With Budgie 10.10 being the last in the 10 line of, Budgie 11 is next up. And it looks like it will be a huge update/rewrite. Finally moving away from all the Gnome/GTK bits in Budgie, they are porting Budgie to Qt 6.

While Budgie 11 is obviously quite a way off, I’m really looking forward to it. I think this is a great move for Budgie.

No Budgie user myself, but had read the article - I liked how they set out their long term path and explain the choices they are making.

I am a die hard KDE zealot, but tried Budgie back when it was still Solus exclusiv and I didn’t know where to go Linux wise. Liked it, but KDE won because Solus was not my kind of coffee. USed your post as motivation top give it a try once again - o, and ofc to “test” ganymede neo

I personally prefer the look of GTK apps, they look cleaner and better to me. Even now that I’m not using Gnome anymore I still prefer using GTK apps. It will be interesting to see how Budgie evolves with this new change.

I dislike Adwaita and GTK. And I really dislike the lack of theming one can do on Gnome (and Gnome-based DEs). So, for me, I’m eager to see what Budgie does with Qt6 moving forward. As far as I’m concerned, the less Gnome bits, the better.

I’m with Cphusion at this topic.
I really like the clean, lightweight and homogenous experience with gnome / gnome based desktops. But I don’t do heavy ricing - I switch my wallpaper from time to time and change the icons to a set I like and that’s possible under every DE.

The only thing that really annoys me in gnome is the missing native systray.
