Good Sound Equalizer?

Is there any good sound equalizer (with GUI ofc) to be used either system wide or app specific?
At the moment all I have is Audacious but that barely qualifies as a proper equalizer, so I was wondering if something better was out there.

Thanks for any contribution

Hello,

As per my knowledge, You might want to check out PulseEffects (now called EasyEffects). It’s a powerful system-wide equalizer with a GUI and offers tons of audio adjustments, including app-specific settings. Another option is the Graphic Equalizer Pro, which is also quite good. Both should give you more control than Audacious.

Hope this helps!

thank you, that is even better that what I was looking for
also welcome on the forum

or better hardware, then an equalizer is superfluous.

Yes, I have been using Easy Effects successfully, and I am very satisfied :+1:

There was no ideal and there will be no ideal. And for most people, using a parametric equalizer is an easy way to “fix” the sound

would you mind elaborating?

If you invest a little more in the output devices (external DAC, speakers, etc.), software-based sound degradation is usually obsolete. And don’t forget: good sources are the be-all and end-all.

Little more? Really? :joy:
All speaker systems are not linear. And how much money do you propose to spend on acoustic preparation of the room?
All headphones are not linear. Even those that cost 40,000 €.
And these “torments” just for the sake of not using the equalizer? :joy:

I think it’s better to be realistic

I see, I think there is a misunderstanding going on here: my desire for an EQ is not due to signal degradation, it is just to “recreate” the ideal listening experience according to different types of music and recording techniques. Commercial songs aren’t meant to be listened to with a “flat” (neutral) output device, that is the sole reason I need an EQ. My entire audio setup has a “flat” response (Westone earbuds and M-Audio studio monitors) and, as far as DAC are involved, I have MIDAS in the input pipeline (Electrovoice RE-20 and Cloudlifter). and if I decide to listen to music it’s solely on FLAC. Eventual analog connections have Bespeco’s Platinum Series cables… so, yeah, could I invest even more? yes. Should I? nah, I’m fine thanks.

I’ve found that decent external speakers are better than relying on software. I got these Creative desktop speakers years ago. Not “monitor” quality, but pretty damn close. No subwoofer needed. Crisp, true sound. Only need the bass/treble adjustments depending on what I’m listening to or creating.

I had that same model years ago, in that price range I would say they were a good deal, especially if all you consume are lo-fi media (youtube, mp3, and so on)
