Happy Upgrade!
It’s working very well…been using it for over a week now…still a (cough…cough) extension problem with Apps Menu (he knows about it & is working on it), but all of the other extensions I use work with a simple ‘49’ to the metadata.json….
Just upgraded to gnome 49 on my computers. However showtime, papers, interacting lock screen and variable scaling are missing from the upgrade.
Have you modified the metadata.json(s) for those? just adding ‘49’ in the proper area & logout/in should see if those extensions work…if not…file a bug report with the developer(s).
Except Quick Settings Tweak, all my other extensions seem to be working. Editing 49 to its metadata.json doesn’t work on my end.
Also the python-gobject upgrade break at least one application for me: alacarte

Aborted (core dumped) alacarte
I have a few others depending on this package. Most of them seem to be working but I haven’t tested them all yet.
Hmmm…I’ve not used Alacarte in a long time…Did you do a bug report for QST?
No I haven’t had time to look into it further yet. But I will. If I remember correctly QST has broken for me on another upgrade occasions too. So far it has always caught up after a little while.
showtime and papers are new applications. They are available in the extra repository. If you want them you need to install them.
For variable scaling, try:
gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-framebuffer']"
What is missing on the lockscree?
I installed showtime & papers. All good. Then I followed your instructions and now have variable scaling. Thank you.
About the interacting lockscreen : “The login screen now includes a accessibility menu more prominent, much easier to locate. And in the lock screen You will now see a media control widget that allows you to pause or skip a track if playback is in progress, without unlocking.”
Those (papers and showtime) are not extensions. I just installed them and removed totem and evince.
Thank you.
I got the accessibility menu and media control right after the upgrade. I didn’t have to enable anything myself.
The only thing I did was to enable the rebbot and poweroff buttons in the quick settings menu at top right of the screen with
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver restart-enabled true
There was only the option for suspend there before.
Edit: Check if you need to enable notification for the lockscreen in the Settings.
All good here, thank you cactux.
You’re welcome! glad you sorted it out!
[2025-09-23T08:59:28+0200] [ALPM] upgraded showtime (48.1-1 -> 49.0-1)
[2025-09-23T08:59:28+0200] [ALPM] upgraded papers (48.5-1 -> 49.0-1)
They didn’t seem to have them installed prior to the upgrade to 49.
hi mbod, when I installed endeavourOS it had gnome 48. This came with evince and totem. Gnome 49 doesn’t have evince or totem, it was replaced with showtime and papers. Unfortunately when I did an upgrade those where not added.
Was not aware of that….didn’t normally use Totem or Evince.
