Gnome Shell Extension OpenWeather, a good dropdown weather extension

If you like to get weather information right from your top bar, just try Gnome Shell Extension OpenWeather.

It is on AUR, here for the stable version: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gnome-shell-extension-openweather

And for development version: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gnome-shell-extension-openweather-git

Here is a screenshot. I just censored my location in order to keep my private life well… Private

nice suggestion…but

just a friendly advice, you should censor sunrise/sunset times as well, otherwise they can pinpoint your location somehow :+1:

I like this better than Gnome Weather, but mainly because I can get closer to my actual location. You don’t need to install from the AUR (you can, but it will be systemwide). You can just install it as a Gnome extension.

I say I’m living in France. So it will be hard to find in which city I’m living

Any Frenchmen worth their weight in bread, cheese, and wine wouldn’t live anywhere but Toulouse! (kidding of course, I haven’t been to France in a long, long time!)

Also, I used to use OpenWeather a lot, but when they changed maintainers, they also updated the backend stack which needed to be done, but for a while I was getting slight system freezes whenever the extension was pinging the servers. I worked with the Dev for a while to make it better, but it never quite got freeze-free for my system for reasons unknown. Luckily I found another extension that came out right around that time that works better for me these days.

These days I prefer to use a more simplified and “just works” extension called Weather O’Clock, which just puts the weather in the center, and that’s it! It was created by CleoMenezesJr, who is very well known in the Gnome community. I thought I wouldn’t even like such a simple extension, but after using it, it grew on me to now that I prefer it in the center. Also Gnome Weather has to be installed for this to work I believe. - https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/5470/weather-oclock/

I don’t actually live in Toulouse as you can see below, but this is the internet after all, so I can say whatever I want!
