I’ve recently noticed that my EndeavourOS GNOME desktop occasionally freezes. When it happens, the screen and mouse become completely unresponsive — I can’t move the cursor or switch workspaces. However, the keyboard still seems to work in the background. For example, during one freeze while I had Slack open, I randomly pressed some keys and hit Enter — and the message was actually sent even though the screen was frozen.
I’d like to diagnose what’s causing this issue. Could you suggest how I can get started troubleshooting this, and what commands or logs I should look at (journalctl, dmesg, etc.) to pinpoint the problem?
Here are my system specs:
OS: EndeavourOS Linux x86_64
DE: GNOME 48.4
WM: Mutter
Kernel: 6.12.44-1-lts
Host: 83AM XiaoXinPro 14 APH8

Shell: zsh 5.9

Any advice on where to start debugging would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I just recently moved back to gnome after using hyprland for almost 2 years now and havent experienced freezing
I had the same issue with 2 old Dell Latitude laptops running Intel hardware & default Wayland session. Apart from freezes & irresponsivenes, the system also disabled most of my addons.
In my case, switching to X11 was the solution. Or, rather a temporary workaround till the Wayland issue gets sorted out at some point.
I really don’t know. But, in my case, in two laptops with the very same issue, switching to X11 fixed it. Though today I came across another, most crazy issue. While writing, the cursor starτed running indefinitely.. The system became totally irresponsive (didn’t try the REISUB combo). It only stopped after finding that its stop was clicking the delete key. I rebooted to find out that some of my defaults (eg default browser) had changed by themselves.
It’s happened quite often after that. No reboot, no cold start have helped. Besides those, I have hit & miss clicks, random irregular spacing.
…and…the one I can see right now. The spacing between my paragraphs are NOT intentional!!!
My system is haunted!!!
Was your problem solved (even as a temporary workaround)? If so, will you tick it as solved?
