Pop shell failed for me with the error described here:

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gnome-shell-extension-pop-shell#comment-938155

Every time I installed an extension I need to restart so it can appear on the extension program, is it supposed to be that way or am i missing something?

Not really or not always. In case they don’t show up, a logout and log back in should be sufficient.

The 45.1-1 updates of gnome-shell and mutter are causing problems on my computer - launching, using, and closing apps during a session will eventually cause gnome-shell to run wild on the CPU (up to 15% in contrast to the regular 1~3% on my machine), causing temps to rise (I noticed because my laptop’s fan will turn up when it normally wouldn’t). Sometimes just leaving the apps open while not focused will cause the spike also  The affected apps are Chromium, Edge, Webcord and Discord, all installed as Flatpaks - doesn’t happen with Firefox however, or Quodlibet, both also installed as Flatpaks.

Posting this report here as I’ve not seen it anywhere on this forum or on other places - in case anyone is experiencing the same problem, downgrading both packages by one version eliminates the issue. Disabling extensions did not solve the issue on 45.1-1, selectively and universally.

I’m downloading Gnome 45 (Fedora) right now to see how it will work. . . KDE is also available. It’s always nice to see how different distro’s work and come together. Check out Fedora’s website if your’re interested. I’m doing this because I used about 25 different distro’s over the years. I love EndeavourOS now because it is cutting edge with the latest up to date software in so far as I can tell. The daily updates keeps me on my toes and it just works very well. Sure I’ve had some issues but the EndeavourOS community is terrific.

Rich;)

Thank-you for sharing. Since it’s not showing up on other forums, I will stay on 45.1

Happy to share  I tried updating mutter and gnome-shell to 45.1-1 again just now to see if it has anything to do with Extensions after all (Blur My Shell has been updated like twice in the past week), but after 3 minutes of starting the session I could see the CPU usage spike still kicking in and sending my CPU temps to above 75 degrees Celsius. Oh well, back to 45.0+r49+…-1 I go.

Not happening to me, could it be machine specific?

Ouch, I hope not… I don’t even know where to start debugging/looking for the root of the issue (journalctl does not seem to catch any errors), and I don’t have another device running Linux to compare. For reference, here are graphics-relevant entries from inxi -Faz:

EDIT: Okay, I uninstalled gdm-settings and disabled all extensions and the CPU spike seems to have stopped. I’ve also re-enabled Dash to Dock and used my computer as normal (launching-closing programs, leaving the previously mentioned Flatpaks and leaving them in the background, media playback, etc.) - no spike for about 30 minutes now. I guess it really is an Extension problem - either Blur My Shell, QSTweak, or Just Perfection?

A bit further up:

I use Blur My Shell and QSTweak. I haven’t had no issues with high cpu usage.
gdm-settings may very well be the culprit.

Yeah, I remembered about having it installed earlier today. I’m doubtful it is (only?) gdm-settings causing problems in my case, and I suspect it’s Just Perfection making gnome-shell go wild. I’ve re-enabled BMS, and QSTweak as soon as I saw your reply about 20 minutes ago (many thanks!) and everything seems to be under control. Now I just need to find an alternative extension for hiding the workspace preview boxes in the app drawer…

For what it may be worth, uninstalling GDM settings fixed some minor issue I had with Gnome 45 as well. When I re-installed GDM-settings later, the problems didn’t come back.
