GNOME 43 is Here. What's Working, What's Not?

But the website says, gnome unstable isn’t affiliated with Arch Linux

This one is Arch’s

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Gnome-unstable#gnome-unstable

The packages get into this repo first before they are moved to Testing.

The one you have in mind is fabiscafe’s repo

Good things take long, great things take a bit longer.

And while Arch is sharpening that Edge (btw), have a look here for inspiration:

anyone updated yet? if so, how do you like it?

I am waiting for my favorite extension to be updated (gnome-gesture-impovments) as I rely on it everyday.

Well it hasnt hit stable yet, probably still a bit longer as the maintainer tends to wait for point releases and if thats too long will apply fixes and patches before releasing.

Its in the unstable repo if youre feeling brave and can handle your system not booting

I am using gnome43 from the fcgu repo since a week and it is working fine for me. No issues. But I do not use many extensions. I have only dash-to–panel, freon and App Indicator. I would assume that many extensions are not yet supporting gnome43.

Every time I’ve used unstable I’ve gotten the White screen of death from gdm  I’d prefer to suggest things won’t work than say they will in that repo.

Most major extensions should be good to go AFAIK, the active devs are pretty fast with it.

You could try to contact Jan Steffens, the person who maintains just about everything Gnome on Arch. Maybe you will get a reply, but I didn’t. :cricket: :cricket: :cricket:

I could not handle another grub fiasco, so I will wait for the point release for a little more peace of mind. Plus I have way more extensions.

so the chance they will all work is low.

Too late I already switched to buntu , couldn’t bear it anymore

some explanation

Of course I didn’t :innocent:

everything gnome 43 seems to have been moved to the staging repo, whatever that means

See here:

Staging repositories

Warning: Do not enable the staging repositories for any reason. Your system will unquestionably break after performing an update. This repository is only meant for backend developer use.

This repository contains broken packages and is used solely by developers during rebuilds of many packages at once. In order to rebuild packages that depend on, for example, a new shared library, the shared library itself must first be built and uploaded to the staging repositories to be made available to other developers. As soon as all dependent packages are rebuilt, the group of packages is then moved to testing or to the main repositories, whichever is more appropriate.
