I have a question to Gnome 40, why do i have the old gnome interface, like gnome 3.36 and not the new one on endeavour OS?

So…not recommending this exactly, but if you want to get gnome-shell updated to 40.0.0 you can enable the gnome-unstable repository.

Be aware the packages haven’t been vetted fully by the arch mantainers and there may be a reason why they are not pushed out yet. However some folks are running from there currently without many issues.
Also be aware that a lot of extensions do not currently have gnome 40 updates.

To flush out the remaining bugs before pushing it to the masses. The remaining parts of Gnome 40 appear to be currently in staging, so they’re coming soon*.

Indeed, edited my post, looks like the gnome-unstable repo got rolled up into a staging repo, so…my gnome-unstable repo suggestion is not going to do you much good now

I was using gnome-unstable and two days ago or so, it moves to staging. As I know it will take some days, I can live with some warnings likes these ones:

Gnome Shell 40 is not that bad, but some extensions are going into some troubles to get them working with the new shell. For exemple dash-to-dock or dash-to panel.

I really hate saying this. But I’m slamming through my bills/household work stuff today. I’m rolling Fedora Workstation 34. . . .
I . . . Like. . . GNOME.
I feel like I have let down my entire LInux history saying that. But this really is an unbelievably usable workflow interface.

I used a gnome extension call Caffeine with Gnome 3.38 and found out I really missed it with Gnome 40. The extension puts a little coffee cup icon on the top bar that you can click directly to turn Caffeine on or off. If the cup is full of steaming coffee Caffeine is on and it will keep your machine from suspending. If the cup is empty then Caffeine is off and your normal suspend times from the power settings will apply.
It doesn’t look Caffeine is maintained much at this point, so I forked a version, updated it for G 40 and re-crafted it into an extension I named Espresso which you can try here if you want:

I am still trying to sort out how extensions.gnome.org is handling version numbers, so if you are searching for it on extensions.gnome.org you might need to choose to show All Version instead of just compatible extensions.

So gnome-shell 1:40.0-1 is here and I have two questions. First, can the start screen be changed, so can I start with a fullscreen workspace instead of the activity view. Second, is there a way to navigate the app grid by keyboard?

there is this extention for Gnome 40 to have it not show the overview window at launch… have yet to test it myself though
