There’s a donation link at the top of the page. I think everyone who’s interested in GIMP getting better should click it.

An update from the GIMP 3 Development Team.
Progress on completing the blocking issues for 3.0 slowed over the summer due to the maintainer and some of the main developers falling ill after the Libre Graphics Meeting conference. This is why we are “late” compared to our original estimated timelines. Thankfully everyone’s feeling much better now, and work has resumed in earnest! As of this writing, we’re currently at 96% completion for the 3.0 RC1 milestone, with 11 issues remaining.
I’ve been keeping an eye out for 3.0, I’m still muddling along in 2.whatever but I decided not to put any real effort into learning it properly or committing to any lengthy projects until the next release given how much it sounds like is likely to be changing.
I’ve been using the development version. When I started doing so over a year ago, it would crash for any and everything, but randomly and mostly when I was finished exporting/saving, so it wasn’t a deal-breaker.
Now, it rarely crashes.
Oh, and it looks better because it can properly use your GTK 3 themes.
For the most part, though, it’s still GIMP’s UI, but with a better UX. More tools and features work how you expect — just overall more intuitive.
The normal version does this too and it’s always very random (can be doing anything too).
Guess they’re just trying to make old users feel at home
In all seriousness though it’s never bothered me too much except for when it happens when I go to save.
Looking forwards to this, been using for years now and still struggle to remember where some things are.
I’ve been using the development version for ages. Currently at version 2.99.18-6. It’s been amazing for quite some time now.
