Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 AM5 ATX Motherboard any issues?

Hi I am about to sell an asrock motherboard cause it uses USB audio codec rather than HD audio codec which is a known problem for Linux when playing audio from front panel headphones.

I want to make sure anyone who is using Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 AM5 ATX Motherboard does it have any issues at all with linux whether it’d be audio, performance or anything?

I use an B550 AORUS ELITE V2 myself and haven’t found anything that doesn’t work with Linux.

I think this motherboard has a MediaTek Wi-Fi 7 MT7925 chip. Because it is WiFi 7 it’s very new. These boards also could have a Realtek chip possibly but this is what I’m coming up with.

Edit: It should work on the latest kernels out of the box. There also is a dkms AUR package available. mt76-mt7925-dkms

Yep I got the rev 1.1 which is realtek not mediatek

This is actually one of the reasons I would be more comfortable with the Gigabyte board.

The X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 uses a Realtek ALC1220 with a normal HD Audio front panel header, so it avoids the USB audio setup you are trying to get away from. I also found a recent owner of this exact board saying they have had no audio issues under Linux.

The only thing I would check before buying is which board revision you are getting. Gigabyte used a MediaTek MT7925 WiFi card on rev 1.0 and a Realtek RTL8922AE on rev 1.1, so Linux support can vary a little depending on kernel version and revision.

There were some older reports of Bluetooth trouble with the MediaTek hardware, but those seem to have improved with newer kernels. I would still run a reasonably current kernel rather than an older LTS release, especially if wireless stability matters. I treat software compatibility the same way elsewhere too. With Tropical Casino https://tropical-casino.com/ I’d rather use the current browser and app version so the game lobby, live tables and account features all behave properly instead of chasing bugs caused by an outdated setup. If Bluetooth is the only concern, updating the kernel would be my first move.

So for audio specifically, this looks like a much safer choice than a board using USB audio. I would just confirm the revision before ordering and update the BIOS once you get it.
