Getting Epson XP-2150 printer to work with KDE was painful

Trying to get this printer to work using KDE System Settings was a struggle. It told me it didn’t have a driver for it and I would have to search for a ppd file. Eventually I found the relevant file online and selected it, but printing still wouldn’t work until I manually built and installed epson-inkjet-printer-escpr from aur.

Seems a lot of effort for something that should be straightforward. Did I do something wrong or is that just what’s involved with Epson inkjet printers under EOS?

Well, it is straightforward, you just didn’t know how to do it. The next time you do it, it will take you 5 minutes.

When it comes to specific printer drivers, most of them are in the AUR.

Well, it could be argued that everything is straightforward when you know how to do it! I would say it’s certainly not a easy process for less experienced Linux users.

It looks like the printer can be installed from source files. Or i suppose one could use debtap and convert the .deb package?

Edit: The AUR has packages for epson also.
