I upgraded like yesterday? Thanks for the reminder though, I need to test out Wayland support.
According to the release notes… they do make it very clear that they officially don’t support it and it was solely added due to frequent requests for the purpose of try it out and testing it. Therefore they made it accessible (GloriousEggroll), but won’t provide support for it.
Curious as to why Valve (and GloriousEggroll/Proton) won’t be supporting Wayland. I mean, Wayland isn’t just the future… it’s here. X-11 is dying a slow death.
Sadly my first attempt failed, and I had to remove the env variable for Wayland. Still, exposing it at least encourages testing.
And perhaps tomorrow I’ll try launching by command line, so I can see what it says.
I’m going to assume, that unless/until Valve moves towards supporting Wayland, logging into an X-11 session to game is the only real option.
Why? It works fine in Wayland sessions, just running XWayland ;0
I hear ya. Just wondering if playing X-11 vs Wayland makes any real difference. I suspect not. This PC I have is the first one I’ve owned that’s capable of real gaming with Steam, Lutris, launchers and such. Still acquainting myself with that fact.
Yeah, it’s new to me too (last year or so), due to how much things have improved.
Just a question: What is the issue with Wayland? I didn’t know that there aren’t any. I was using GE-Proton in Wayland for months and didn’t use any specific commands in Steam. Did I miss something?
Currently everything still runs through XWayland and not native. Works great and we are all using it.
The effort for running without XWayland and native is maturing though, and that is what all the recent talk is about.
Ok. Thanks. So no issues on that.
Next release …
Tadaaa …
