So- I’ve been playing vr chat and sober (Roblox client) on linux, and I’ve noticed my game is really laggy on both of them. Like 10-20 fps. However, I will then launch my minecraft in the background, and it suddenly shoots back to a playable amount. Does anyone know why? I did some experimentation, and it doesn’t work for EVERY game (Overwatch runs fine without minecraft launched, and worse when launched as expected).
This also seems to only work when I have the MPK Mod installed on my 1.21.10 instance. Without any mods (only fabric) it only seems to give a small boost when launching, and then drops again. With the mod installed, it stays stable all the way though.
Unfortunately, doesn’t seem to work. Using sober to test, and it was already checked to use dedicated graphics. And even when switching to nvidia mode on envy control, it didn’t change

A few days ago I had to downgrade my graphics driver, since a update went to 590 and borked my video card. I believe the issue was happening before that though
The only thing i can think of now is to switch to a different proton version (proton-ge). I have a 2nd notebook with a GTX 1070 card and all the games i play are working great. Finished Wolfenstein (2009) on it yesterday. I never had a single issue dipping it down to 10-20 fps.
Well, sober is it’s own independent program, emulating roblox from a android layer as far as I understand. And VRC is just running through steam proton. I use proton GE 9-26, which is what I also use for overwatch (which works fine). It seems to be isolated to those two game, which feels weird since they act so similarly with the error, and nothing else is a problem.
Update: I messed around with it, and that didn’t seem to work. However- after trying to edit something using davinci resolve- now THAT is seeming to run better with minecraft open, and I never seemed to notice it- it stutters and plays at a lower fps when I don’t have it open
Final update: Turns out it was the simplest thing: my power mode. I must have hit Meta + B accidentally sometime, because I was on eco mode instead of performance. Thanks for the help ^^
