Fresh install and no WiFi connection on Acer Aspire5745g laptop

Hi,

I did a fresh installation of the most recent release of Endeavour OS on an Acer Aspire5745g laptop. I cannot use WiFi. I can see my WiFi network under “WiFi Networks > Available Networks” but when I enter it’s password a connection is not established.

For network adapters lspci shows:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Qualcomm Atheros AR8151 v1.0 Gigabit Ethernet (rev c0)
03:00.0 Network controller: Qualcomm Atheros AR9287 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)

I am using a Lan cable and can use the Ethernet adapter to go online.
What do I need to do to connect to the Internet via WiFi?

Open a terminal and run the following command:

journalctl -f

While the above command is running, try to connect to wifi.

When it fails, do you see any relevant messages in the terminal output? If positive, copy and paste them in your reply, highlight the text and format it by clicking on </>.

Just guessing, but maybe package linux-firmware-qcom needs to be installed.

What does this show?

inxi -Na

Is it using the ath9k module?

Here is the result from running journalctl -f. I selected my WiFi two times:

So the module is loaded. It just won’t connect?

Thanks for the reply!

Yes. I rechecked the password. I can see my WiFi and it is shown with a red exclamation mark. I also ran pacman -S linux-firmware-qcom and rebooted.

Ok, I will from now on. Thank you.

Try the following

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf

add

options ath9k nohwcrypt=1

ctrl + o then enter to save

ctrl + x to exit nano

reboot and try to connect

This might point to the issue.
I’m not using wpa_supplicant so I am not sure what to look for to troubleshoot. I’ll dig a bit.

what says:

systemctl status wpa_supplicant

?

PS- You could edit your previous post by clicking on the pen icon and format the text :slightly_smiling_face:

You can do the same for post #6 Always use code tags when posting output.

I added “options ath9k nohwcrypt=1” to /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf and rebooted
No change on my WiFi connectivity,

Here is the output for

Try the following

sudo modprobe -r ath9k
sudo modprobe ath9k

Yes, I can see the difference. Thank you.

The issue seems to be less about wifi connectivity than the authentication. While the former works, the latter seems to fail.

I entered the commands
[user@Aspire5745g ~]$ sudo modprobe -r ath9k
[sudo] password for user:
[user@Aspire5745g ~]$ sudo modprobe ath9k
[user@Aspire5745g ~]$
Should I have seen an output in terminal?

Please format your code properly!

Thanks!
