Freezes a couple of seconds/minute after updates

What is this showing? What is the command you used?

But it works perfectly fine!

It’s just like the user in that other thread had. It just freezes a bit and then it works

EndeavourOS doesn’t have flatpak installed.

flatpak list

It shows all flatpaks installed.

Here is a better list
https://clbin.com/LgPy2

EDIT: Maybe it’s KDE? Since it’s mostly it’s applications in it. I only installed Discord and Transmission. Nothing else.

It’s not KDE! We have many of us here using kde for more than 3 years on EOS with zero issues including myself.

So strange still then. I promise you, I haven’t manually installed it.
Anyway I removed Bauh, so lets see if it helps. “Yay” showed no updates.

I don’t blame KDE for the freezes, just maybe KDE included flatpak but apparently not.
First version of EOS I installed with Nvidia drivers where Atlantis.

EDIT: ran the “UpdateInTerminal” and it found an update to “rust”. I will reboot my computer before I update just to be sure.

I would believe it’s flatpak for sure if anything.

Maybe!

Anyways just after updating:
https://clbin.com/URMV1

Same after the freezes.I wonder if it have to do with the Tuxedo Control Center. It controls the fans, power etc. Since they don’t have official support for “Arch” it might interfere.

EDIT: Oh right, here is the other https://clbin.com/jR1Nv
EDIT2: Thanks for all the help btw <3

What does this show if anything?

journalctl | grep -i "hardware err"

If it is only after doing a full system upgrade, then you should check all alpm/pacman hooks and find if it happens when a specific package is updated, or for any package(s).

You could also find any timers that may have been installed/enabled from some system utility, like bauh or flatpak, or Discovery, or Gnome Software.

Since you know when it happens, just set a trap
Before running an update, have a terminal (or two) open running htop, sorted by CPU usage (and/or journalctl -f to watch any useful message).

If I misunderstood, please, explain more.

I also haven’t understood what is that list posted, flatpaks?
You seem to ignore advice to post also the input (command you used to run and get output). Is there a reason, or just forgotten?

Sadly it’s blank.

Hi! Sorry, it even happens when I remove a software. It’s very strange, it’s more interesting than not to find the culprit than an actually big issue.

About flatpak it was just a hunch that it might cause some issues, but nay. It shouldn’t, I think?
I’ve tried to remove Bauh and even Tuxedo Control Center but avast, same issue(s).

I now done a timeshift back, so it’s “back again” to where it was when the issues begun again, to try to nail it down.

EDIT: I will do a journalctl -f,before I do an update next to the system. It seem to only affect when I do a pacman upgrade (or yay), flatpak seems to just roll on like clockwork.

Re-installing might help.
Flatpak does not belong to the default packages in EndeavourOS.
And I wouldn’t recommend using flatpak either, unless you know exactly what the consequences are.

Some updates are available at this very moment.
After recommendations I’ve removed Flatpak completely and I’ve removed Bauh since it’s unnecessary.

I’ll take a journalctl -f now and update, brb with an edit.

I would just reinstall EOS with KDE nothing else and no changes to anything to see how it works. Had the same issue with another user and reinstalled and everything works no issues.

In such cases, it is always recommended to boot with the LTS kernel, if it is installed at all.

I’ve found the culprit!

It’s Timeshift. When I update, it updates a snapshot. While it does that, it slows the system down. Apparently a known issue, but no real solution?
If you google “timeshift slowdown” it’s a lot of issues with it. I wonder if it’s just Timeshift or other software(s) like it that slows the system down.

I gonna clean out like almost all snapshots from 2 months ago (even tho it shouldn’t keep that old?) and tell it not to keep as many. Let’s see if it makes any difference!

I don’t use timeshift. I use btrfs-assistant with snapshots. Never ever had an issue. :crossed_fingers:

Oh!

Seems to be the two following:
btrfs-cleaner
btrfs-transaction

they seem to be the main culprits that gets triggered

Btw, can I use that software together with grub-btrfs, or lets say in a catastrophic failure, I just boot a livecd?
