I have been spending more bandwidth on downloading new releases of FreeTube lately than actually on watching any videos on it. For obvious reasons ![]()
yeah Iām waiting for it to hit the Aur then I will update. (to much fog in the head this am)
Update: Its in the AUR now
freetube-bin 0.23.11-1 -> 0.23.12-1
It might be dumb question⦠but looking at https://freetubeapp.io/#download it says in the section āother linux distributionsā .pacman (x86).
What is that file or package format exactly? I mean for what distributions is it meant?
It is an xz compressed pacman package. You can install it with pacman -U.
Arch-based distros.
Ok. The download file is named freetube-0.23.12-beta-amd64, so all I have to do is to run sudo pacman -U freetube-0.23.12-beta-amd64 ?
So why Is then freetube-bin on AUR based on .deb, if I understand the pckbuildcorrectly?
Yes. Although, whenever I download those, they are always named .pacman so make sure you downloaded the right thing. file should tell you it an xz compressed image.
An AUR package builds a package locally so I donāt think it would be easy to use the pacman package directly in the AUR package.
If you open the terminal from within the folder that you downloaded the file into, then the correct install command shall be:
sudo pacman -U ./freetube-0.23.12-beta-amd64.pacman
This is what happens:
LC_ALL=C sudo pacman -U ./freetube-0.23.12-beta-amd64.pacman

warning: cannot resolve āhttp-parserā, a dependency of āfreetubeā

Not sure what the problem is, however I already have freetube installed via chaotic-aur.
Interesting. http-parser is available in arch repo for me. It should be able to install it.
If you have the āaurā version installed already, you are good. You donāt need to reinstall it. However, i recommend the āgitā version from the aur repo (freetube-git) because it will always be up to date with the latest additions to the code, even before the official release. I recommend that one because youtube and freetube is in a constant fight and official versions will be late to fix the problems. So uninstall what you currently have and install the āfreetube-gitā aur package.
There also is the āfreetube-electron-gitā in aur repo. If you have trouble running the application because of troubles with electron, you might want to try this one.
I just installed the git version freetube-git 0.23.12.beta.r9332.6628c3e-1 (aur/freetube-git).
How do you know if there is a new git release available? A subscription of new releases on freetube github?
Once there is a new git release, you just rebuild the package with yay -S freetube-git or other AUR helper?
If you update your system with yay -Syu --devel it will update *-git packages.
When I try to refresh my subscriptions, all the channels end up with error or I just see
Is It Just Me or Youtube is at it again?
edit:
This seems to happen when All Channels profile is chosen. It looks as if it works correctly when I choose other specific profiles. Have to keep an eye on it.
edit-edit:
Seems it was a clog, hiccup, glitch⦠go figure. Looks resolved. How terrible of me suspecting Youtube ![]()
Freetube didnāt work for me anymore. Every channel is blank and i get this error:
TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'metadata_parts')
Iām not sure if this came with the latest update (freetube-bin-0.24.0-1)
//edit
found this. But the problem still resists.
Itās working here. Maybe youtube has blocked your ip. They have been doing that lately to a lot of people.
Usually the block last about an hour
Working here, 0.24.0 version.
I found most of the times it isnāt working for me is the VPN server Iām using.
Can usually fix that by changing servers.
Youtube made changes and freetube will need to make changes to compensate.
You can view feeds via RSS and you can watch videos but channel pages are not working currently.
Working fine for me right now.
So you can open this link in freetube and see videos?
No, but all my channels are available and videos are working.
