Forum (software) is glitchy and slow on my end

… and it has been so for some time. Menus are glitchy and slow to open. Links are slow to open when clicked on. Basically every element on the forum reacts with delay when interacted with.

I have only used Librewolf. However same thing happens in a couple of different distros (Arch- and Debian- based).

Is it only me or someone else is also experiencing this?

It seems OK here in Firefox. Have you tried clearing your cache?

Yes. I have set the browser to clean everything when quitting. Perhaps is Librewolf though I have not tried other browsers.

Just tried Librewolf , no problems there maybe a DNS issue of some sort ?

I don’t see the relation. What has DNS to do with clicking elements in the forum, like the search icon, hamburger (navigation) menu, the avatar, yes basically everything. Don’t know

Something is not right on my end then if you have tried Librewolf and it is working well.

Are you using any extensions that could affect it?

I was thinking about that as well. I am using uBlock Origin but it has loads of custom blocklists added. I use CanvasBlocker too.

I use the same configuration to log in other forums using Discourse too but only here things are slowed down. I’ll disable them to see if that make any difference.

Now I have disabled all the extensions but I don’t notice any difference.

I use the Librewolf, the flatpak.

Well I am not using any flatpaks just the “normal” Librewolf.

This feels like a network issue. You should test your ping a few times and let it run for like 10 minutes, unless you see a problem right away.

ping forum.endeavouros.com

This is what I am seeing? What am I supposed to see otherwise if there is a problem?

I’m not so sure, unless the forum software pings the server whenever you take an action

This is what I get when I interrupt the pinging (if that is a word), any indication in there at your end
maybe ?

-- forum.endeavouros.com ping statistics ---
6 packets transmitted, 6 received, 0% packet loss, time 5003ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 25.909/26.354/26.779/0.264 ms
--- forum.endeavouros.com ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 10 received, 0% packet loss, time 9016ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 41.940/43.339/46.898/1.386 ms

Does this mean that I have a much slower DNS resolution?

Well the only thing I can tell you when I started using Quad 9 as DNS the internet certainly is faster, then before. But I guess where ever you are in the world compared to where the forum servers are can also play a role in how fast the internet speed. There could be some hop that is slow or something like that.

forum seems to operate fine here in the eastern US. Maybe shut off your router for a few minutes then turn it back on.

Works fine on this side (MY) of the world too.

dns resolution happens only once when you look up a server to get the ip address, after that during navigation it should just reuse the ip address

it shouldn’t affect ping, ping just measures your response time from a server. Yours looks better than mine and the site works fine here. Sometimes ping issues come and go, that’s why you should let it run for like 10 minutes and see if you have high ping spikes or lost packets.

Did you try a different browser?

If it’s the same in another browser, then again the most probable cause is still the network. You should try a different network, like a hotspot. Did you install or enable something that could affect the network? Like a vpn?

Does this happen on other websites? like here https://discuss.cachyos.org/ same forum software.

Forum main page looks weird, reads invalid date for every post and a zero next to each, and the posts are mostly older topics, on Firefox on my Android phone

And clicking on any brings me to the first post whether I’ve read any or not

I’m seeing this on my phone, but it’s working fine on desktop.
