Hi, I updated a laptop w/ Cinnamon after a while and after reboot and login I noticed all fonts on the screen being slightly larger.
AFAICT pacman.log doesn’t reveal any font relevant pkg to be changed.
I can see
[2026-03-27T20:06:34+0100] [ALPM] running ‘fontconfig.hook’…
[2026-03-27T20:06:35+0100] [ALPM] running ‘fontconfig-32.hook’…
being invoked, which wasn’t the case during the update before (2026-03-18).
So I’d conclude it potentially did something.
Any info about this?
Thanks a lot, Michael.
EDIT:
Apparently my perception is playing tricks on me … ![]()
I found full screenshots from Oct. 26 '25 and Jan. 11 '26 and clearly the font size and typeface has changed.
Of course I can’t remember if I reduced the size and some update did a reset or if this were original states. ![]()
Then again, I don’t really think I changed the typeface!
Try to add the following line to ~/.Xresources
Xft.dpi: 96
Some xorg components may have been updated.
that would be a new file.
browsing this thread:
created the file, restarted the session, but this didn’t change the font.
Since this didn’t work I reduced the system font size by one notch (i.e. 11→10 etc.) via system settings.
Alas, I don’t know what the font was like 10 days ago, but to my eye the font face itself also changed.
Or was it already Adwaita Sans (Regular) ?
Yes, Adwaita Sans Regular 11 was the default font after installation.
I was wrong to believe others without verifying it. My apologies.
Nothing to apologise, thank you for helping out!
PS: but the Document font is 12pt?
Yep.
