Firefox "Preview" Video Audio

This is a tricky one! (Getting increasingly frustrated with Firefox…)

So Firefox has a specific volume level for videos in Youtube, when you hover over them on the main page and they start playing, it’s 100%, deafeningly loud. You can’t set application volume for this, as Plasma defines the audio for continuous playback, so as soon as you hover away with your mouse, it doesn’t think there’s any audio playing (rightly so).

The default volume for audio in Firefox when actually clicking on a video and playing it is set low, because you can leave it playing, and then adjust the volume in sound settings. But it’s that hover over video playback that’s insanely loud and not something you can adjust manually without losing mouse focus that stops playback.

Any ideas on this weird one?

HI,
I have an extension called “youtube enhancer” installed, which works very well for sound and many other things.

Regards.

Try this setting in about:config

media.volume_scale

Set it to 0.5, where 0.0 is mute and 1.0 is max volume.

This will lower it to 50%. Then in Plasma, when you actually click a video, you may need to turn things up to 125-150%.

Obviously, this lowers ALL Firefox sounds and is technically a “drastic” measure.

This is potentially a genius option, thanks!

Just remember that you changed that setting. Otherwise, you’ll have the video at 100%, Plasma at 100%, and wonder why you’re only getting 50% (or whatever you set it to) in comparison to other audio sources.
