Firefox creates grey background

Hey everyone!

After updating yesterday, starting firefox and thunderbird creates a weird background around the window.

I have reinstalled both programms and updated the system again but with no success whatsoever. I use KDE 6 with the most recent updated and kwin effects like rounded corners and forced blur, which i both rebuild yesterday after updating KDE. And i am using X11 to run KDE.

Has anyone had similar problems?

It turned out that the forced blur effect is causing the troubles. I have no idea how to solve it, but maybe i can at least inform other users about recent problems with this package

Are you using this one?
https://github.com/esjeon/kwin-forceblur ?
Did you install it from System Settings > Kwin Scripts ? (ok one cannot find it under KDE6 anymore I tk)

If so, install this one:

This I had to reinstall after updates, but it works bug free with the following settings:

unchecked: Apply opacity to the blur
:ballot_box_with_check: Blur all except matching
:ballot_box_with_check: Blur window decorations as well

You don’t need to disable other Desktop Effects (this is where you’ll find it) like it says on GitHub. Just a logout or reboot is needed for it to work.

Also, for your setup, try Firefox with (right click in the bar embedding URL bar > costumize Toolbar) :ballot_box_with_check: Title Bar (bottom left)

No, i use this one:

Despite rebuilding the error still persists

Did you do that:

Remove the build directory when rebuilding the effect.

Reboot or try with my settings above (edited) and reboot

Yes i did that! I also worked of a fresh clone of the repo, disabled everything rebooted and enabled it again but to no success

What did you disable?

Ah sorry, force blur (better blur) of course

Try with Title Bar in Firefox.

For whatever reason this works  thank you! :enos_flag:

For future reference as people come here after updates (rebuild needed)…

Delete the build directory and rebuild following Github
