The only experience with custom Android ROMs is /e/OS https://e.foundation/ , a fully de-Googled Android. However I have it on my Galaxy S7 Edge and since end of last year it stopped getting updates. – WAIT, just checked it and now I get 3 updates at once (for the last 3 months). Not sure what’s going on there, but well, that’s nice.
Yeah, /e/OS for me it is then. I’m not a smartphone user at all (anymore), so it’s fine for me.
I’m unfortunately not entirely ungoogled. But for some Google intensive stuff and other things, like Github and such, I have a dedicated phone for this kind stuff. It has a dedicated phone number and a stock Android, most of the time offline and just sitting at home when I need it to authenticate myself. I settled down on this setup of two devices.
I want to try GrapheneOS, but my current phone (Oneplus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G; great phone name guys keep it up) isn’t supported. I think you can’t easily install ROMs on my phone either, so I would rather just… not bother installing a custom ROM for the moment. I want to get a Pixel phone soon and install Graphene.
I used graphene for awhile and there are certain things that are very nice, primarily the security features. However, I own a small business and my bank only allows cheque deposits via mobile app. Regardless of the many recommendations from other graphene users and suggestions on their website, my banking app refused to work. So back to lineage for me.
