Fatal exception in interrupt

Today I updated my laptop and it couldn’t boot after that. (Last update was about 2 month ago)

If I live boot the latest Endeavouros It boots but I can get same kernel panic if I run the command: df
I tested an older Endeavouros (1 year old) It doesn’t have this issue.

I also tried Cachyos live, it glitched after df command instead of kernel panic.

Kernel panic message:

[ 323.034398] Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt

Are you using systemd-boot or grub? You probably need to sudo reinstall-kernels from an
arch-chroot on the live ISO if using systemd-boot or sudo dracut-rebuild if using grub.

Welcome to the community @DDani :waving_hand::smiley: :enos_flag:

I have a couple of questions to run by you.

  • Are you dual booting?
  • In the BIOS/UEFI, have you ensured:
    • Legacy / CSM (compatibility support module) is disabled.
    • Secure boot is disabled.
    • If dual booting, Fastboot is disabled in Windows.
  • I suspect there is a BIOS update available for your laptop that addresses USB and security issues. This is the BIOS link I found, but you should confirm that represents your model before following up on that.

Thx

I only have one os installed.
I have the correct bios settings.
The bios is definitly looking right and I have lower version. It is an .exe does it mean I have to install windows to apply it?

Ah that’s a pain. That may be the case. I’m not personally aware of another option, but that’s not to say there isn’t one.

It’s good you were able to confirm those BIOS settings. Perhaps for now postpone a BIOS update, and we’ll try to resolve the current issue elsewhere.

I’d second @ricklinux’s suggestion.

I already saved everything from the machine any way. I can do the windows install.
If i just boot the live iso and just running the df command without doing anything else (not mounting the originial system or anything) I get the kernel panic ( witch means for me the problem not only exist in the installed system)

This suggests it may have been a recent update specifically, causing the issue. Might you have the LTS kernel installed, that you can try booting with?

As a note, I’d always recommend having it installed, even if you don’t typically use it. It can be a useful backup option.

You could try Hiren’s Boot CD

So, I installed windows and installed the bios update but that didn’t helped.
Kernel panic also happens when I try to install Endeavouros.

This look like secure boot is enabled. It should be disabled.

Edit:

I have it like this:

Not sure why it’s showing this info in the output then.

Edit: How are you creating the boot media? Are you able to try another usb drive? Also maybe wipe the internal drive with gparted using the live ISO. You can do this by creating a new GPT partition.

I used the kde iso tool
I was able to install windows and MX Linux with that usb drive without an issue.
I already tried the entire drive wipe.
I’m currently using MX Linux it also reporting the same error, but it works perfectly.

I guess MX it is then!
