"Failed to run pacstrap" issue

Hello :’D
I am trying for the first time to install endeavourOS onto my Surface Pro 4, but am running into the issue that pacman doesn’t want to install. (failed to run pacstrap) I’ve tried it 3 times yesterday at different times throughout the day/evening and twice this morning. It seems to always change on when exactly it fails to retrieve certain files? (on other logs it seemed to be different files, but still related to pacstrap, but i goofed and didn’t save those, my bad)
I wonder if it is in part due to my WiFi being a little shaky (phone hotspot) or if it is something else that I have no idea about.

2. Installation Media Creation

How did you create the USB/bootable media? (Rufus)

3. Selected Installer Options

Please list the specific choices you made during the Calamares setup:

  • Install Method: (Online)
  • Desktop Environment: (GNOME)
  • Bootloader: (systemd-boot)
  • Filesystem: (ext4)
  • Other: (swap [something something hibernate, i am not sure what I am doing, sorry])

Looks like you have mirror or connectivity issues. Can you not go some place (like library or Internet cafe) with better connectivity to install? As you put it, ‘shaky’ internet is not a good idea for an install really.
You may also want to update your mirrors before running the installation.

Thank you for the reply! I could try going to a different place in a couple days for connectivity-related issues. In the meantime, I’ve tried updating the mirrors and hope that’ll help, but am uncertain if I did it correctly or not, but will try a few more times in case it keeps failing.

Maybe it’s too early in the morning for me, but doesn’t it offer an offline install (haven’t done an E install in at least two years)? if so, choose that option to get a working install.

Yeah, but you can’t choose your desktop, you get Plasma.

But you get something installed that works

True dat!

You can see the ranking result in file
/etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.

Offline install should work as it doesn’t need a connection. But it gives you KDE, not GNOME.

If connection is the problem, I’d suggest phone’s USB tethering or wifi hotspot instead.
